Macey came into care after her small voice was heard calling out, alone in a nursery, far from where a lamb should ever feel safe. Someone heard her baaing and stopped, unable to ignore a lamb who was clearly searching for comfort.
When her owner later came forward, Macey’s carer prepared to reunite them. But love has a way of making itself known. Seeing the bond that had already formed, the trust, the settling, the way Macey leaned into gentle hands, her owner made a compassionate choice and allowed her to stay. From the very beginning, Macey had only known kindness.
But safety is only the beginning. Every lamb needs another heart to walk beside them.
And so Gus arrived.
Gus, with his soft eyes and gentle nature, knew straight away. Macey wasn’t so sure. She watched. She waited. She took her time. And then, quietly, she chose him. A step closer. A shared space. A friendship formed gently, without rush.
Gus has excess eyelid that affects some of his vision and will be assessed by the vet to see what support he may need. But what he sees most clearly is connection, and what Macey sees now is not loneliness, but companionship.
Together, Macey and Gus remind us that sometimes rescue is not a single moment, but a series of kind choices, made by people who listen, and lambs who learn to trust again.
