James is a very lucky lamb despite losing his mum on his first day of life. James’ mum sadly died during the birthing process leaving the newborn lamb alone in a world he certainly would not survive in on his own. Newborn lambs cannot regulate their body temperature so succumb to hypothermia very quickly. Hypothermia puts a huge strain on a baby’s organs. So depending on the stage of organ shutdown, recovery may or may not be possible. You can read more about lamb hypothermia at www.lambcareaustralia.org.au/lamb-health-lamb-hypothermia/
Fortunately for James, he was surrendered to us. One of our experienced team of carers immediately began the life-saving treatment to bring James back from the edge by successfully restoring his body temperature to a healthy level.
James has teamed up with the tiny Oreo and together they make a very cute pair. Oreo arrived after he, too, was orphaned. The tiny lamb was inconsolable at first, missing his mum terribly. The gentle James, so much bigger than Oreo, stayed with the little lamb and showed him that he was not alone. Oreo soon attached himself to his giant friend and now loves nothing better than sleeping on top of him, which James happily lets him do. James is a gentle giant who loves his bottle but will patiently wait his turn and let his little friend go first. This is definitely a life-long friendship in the making.
