At 5am this morning the beautiful Hugo began his long journey from Port Macquarie to Melbourne where we hope our vets will be able to tell us the cause of his mobility issues. Hugo had a welcome break at Gundagai this afternoon. He has been calm and happy and eating on and off during the 1262km journey. Tonight he will take a break from travel and stay in Central Victoria before completing the remaining 120km to his new home just out of Melbourne.

Hugo began the long and slow road to recovery which involves splinting his legs to gradually straighten and strengthen them. This has not been an easy process for Hugo but the gentle boy has accepted the need for them and does not resist when they are put on by his doting carer. Hugo has his splints applied overnight when he is least mobile and lays perfect still during the process.
We are pleased to say that Hugo is now doing really well. His vet team is happy with the changes that are occurring through splinting his legs. There is significant change to his right front leg and slight changes to his left (photo two).
In the words of his carer: “Hugo is a dream to have so long as he has food including his favourite, a carrot, every day.”
It’s going to be a long road to recovery for Hugo and we can never be totally sure to what extent his mobility will return. Sadly, there is a high chance of early onset arthritis however this can be managed extremely well. What a joy it is to see this young lamb transform over time.
