Franklin was surrendered into our care when he was only one day old. Found by the side of the road alone and cold he was taken to a nearby vet surgery who then contacted us. How these young lambs end up in his situation is always a mystery to us but we assume that some fall off a transport truck. Franklin will never see his mum again but at least he is now safe and in the good hands of one of our carers. Franklin is very recognisable due to his ears that stick out and remind us of those of an elephant. As long as he doesn’t go outside on a windy day we think he will be fine!
Eli was sadly orphaned at birth and surrendered into our care. He quickly teamed up with Franklin and the pair are now inseparable. Eli is healthy and happy and looking forward to a long life with his new friend.
Update on Eli
In early November, young Eli had a front leg amputation. After many months of battling joint ill with no improvement we knew the only option for Eli was to have his leg removed. As with all amputations, the decision was not made without extensive discussion with one of our experienced vets.
Eli underwent surgery with Dr Josh Ellis at Romsey Veterinary Surgery. His surgery went well and he was soon home with his carer for pampering and extra special treats. Eli began to navigate how to stand without a front leg but, as with the other lambs who we have had undergo this operation, he soon adjusted to life as another lamb we affectionately refer to as a tripod lamb.

Eli is hopping into the new year in good spirits. He is navigating his new life as a tripod with ease and his wound is continuing to heal after a few setbacks with infection. Eli’s carer is in awe of his resilience and how well he has adapted. He runs like the wind and is always leading the pack on the run home to bed and snacks. Eli has also discovered having three legs makes it easier to squeeze through small gaps ensuring his mischievous adventures with Frankie continue.
